  • August 21st class will be 6-8pm

  • August 22-29 class is 8-10am

  • August 31, September 1 and 3 class will be 6-8 pm

  • September 2nd class is 3:45-5:45pm

  • These are the class dates ONLY and do not include each students six required drives

  • Drives may continue up to three weeks after the last scheduled day of class

  • In-person instruction

What to expect?

  • Students gain experience in a variety of real-world driving environments, including residential neighborhoods at speeds up to 25 mph, rural and county roads at speeds up to 55 mph, Kalamazoo city traffic ranging from 25–45 mph—including downtown—and freeway driving and merging at speeds up to 70 mph.

  • Our drives progress from simple to increasingly complex environments, with specific objectives for each lesson.

    • Drive 1 takes place in the neighborhood behind Centerpoint Church and focuses on very low-speed residential driving. Students are introduced to reference points, proper lane positioning, right and left turns, and other essential foundational driving skills.

    • Drive 2 builds on these foundational skills and introduces lane changes on larger roads, followed by light city driving on Drive 3.

    • Drive 4 takes students through downtown Kalamazoo and provides additional roundabout experience, while

    • Drive 5 focuses on freeway driving and merging.

    • Drive 6 is a comprehensive combination drive that reinforces skills across multiple driving environments. Rural driving is integrated at various points throughout the program.

    • Students must safely complete each drive’s objectives before progressing to the next drive.

    • Certificates of completion will not be issued to students who are unable to safely complete the course objectives.

Where are the classes and drives held?

  • All classes and drives will take place from Centerpoint Church

Makeup days are TBD and as needed (*weather cancellations, approved absences, etc.)

No class or drives on Sunday

No class on Wednesdays (*drives may occur before 6pm)

Behind the wheel (BTW’s) sessions may take place right after school, during the day (for homeschoolers or non-traditional) and Saturdays.

If your school has in service days, etc. those may be utilized for scheduling purposes.

Drives typically begin after the second day of class

It is important that families maintain as open a schedule as possible for the duration of drivers training. Too many conflicts can disrupt a smooth and successful driver’s training experience.

Segment 1 requires that all students be at least 14 years and 8 months old by the first day of class. Each student is required to verify their date of birth by bringing a copy of their birth certificate to the first day of class. Parents will be able to send the instructor a photograph verifying the birthdate.

Garrett’s School of Driving, LLC reserves the right to make changes as needed to the course schedule and format.

Garrett's School of Driving, LLC is a family-owned and operated business founded by Chase and Bethany Garrett in 2024. Both Chase and Bethany play an integral role in the day to do operations of the school.

Garrett's School of Driving, LLC is a family-owned and operated business founded by Chase and Bethany Garrett in 2024. Chase oversees the school's programs and day-to-day operations, while Bethany works closely with students and families as part of the instructional team. Their hands-on involvement ensures every family receives personalized attention, direct communication, and a consistent experience from registration through course completion. Unlike many larger driving schools, families have direct access to the owners, providing a level of accountability and customer service that is difficult to find elsewhere.

Beyond driver education, Mr. Garrett teaches for Gull Lake Virtual Partnership, Three Rivers Partnership, and serves as an Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Spring Arbor University. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music Education. Chase and Bethany are also proud homeschool parents of six children, a background that has shaped their passion for education and a commitment to helping every student succeed.
